[Project] Set-Up for Bible Quiet Book

This is a continuation of my previous post.

We are going to step through putting together the Bible Quiet Book.

You’ll find the pattern for this Bible Quiet Book in my friend’s Etsy store.

There’s a few things to do when setting up before you can start putting together the Quiet Book.

Time Awareness

Making Quiet Books takes time; I just wanted to reiterate the fact :).

You won’t be able to make this book in one day; be prepared to spend a couple of days putting your book together.

Tools Needed

There’s just a couple of things you’ll need in order to put this adorable Quiet Book together.

  • Sewing machine – just need the simple straight and zig-zag stitches
  • Cutting board, ruler & rotary cutter
  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • Thread – need different colors for top-stitching on different colored felt
  • Iron & ironing board
  • Hammer for installing grommets
  • Printer – to print off instructions
  • Tape – to put together printed out patterns

Have these tools and you’re ready to get your materials.

The Bible Quiet Book needs quite a bit of materials.

I thought I’d list them here to show exactly what you need for this project.

List of materials:

  • 1 large metal snap
  • Velcro
  • Leather fringe for animals
  • Thin chord
  • Small decorative counting beads
  • Small amount of shiny metallic fabric
  • Rock beads
  • Small chord elastic
  • Thick chord
  • Small amount of red fabric
  • 6 small metal grommets (make sure there’s kit parts to help install them)
  • 1/2 yard thick interfacing
  • 1/2 yard thin interfacing
  • Ribbon
  • 30″ x 30″ white felt
  • 2 yards fabric
  • Clear vinyl/plastic (about 6″ x 6″)
  • 9 x 12″ felt sheets (colors and amounts are listed in the Quiet Book instructions)

I had some of these in my own craft stash: chords, Velcro, beads, red fabric, ribbon, clear plastic and metal snap. For everything else, I went to Hobby Lobby.

It only cost me $36 at Hobby Lobby for the grommets, leather fringe, interfacing, felt and fabric; not bad.

I did run into one little hiccup, they didn’t have any off-white felt so I had to settle for white, but no big deal. I was happy to get everything I needed in one stop and for a pretty good deal.

Measure & Cut-Out Book Pieces

First off you’ll need your:cutting-out-fabrics-tools

  • Cutting board
  • Ruler
  • Rotary cutter
  • Pins
  • 2 yards fabric
  • 30″ x 30″ white felt
  • 1/2 yard thick interfacing

I started with cutting out the white felt pages.

You need 9 cut to 9 1/2” x 9 1/2.”

Then I cut out the covers and inside pages out of my fabric.

Out of the fabric you need 5 cut to 26″ x 12.”

I then cut out the thick interfacing for the front and back covers.

Then the spine and strap with their interfacing’s.

You need 2 cut to 12 1/4” x 10 1/2” of thick interfacing to line the cover pages.

Then out of the fabric cut 1 piece to 5 1/2” x 11 1/2” for the spine and 1 piece to 5″ x 3 1/2” for the strap.

Out of the thick interfacing cut 1 piece to 2″ x 10 1/2” for the spine and 1 piece to 1″ x 4″ for the strap.

The Wrap Up

felt-patterns-toolsNow you’ve got the main pieces cut out for the Quiet Book you can get ready to start working on the felt pages.

It’s best to work on the felt pages one at a time; cutting out felt pieces only as you need them.

It gets pretty complicated with the pieces needed for just one page, I can’t imagine trying to keep track of all the little felt pieces cut out at the same time!
