[Project] Part 8 Bible Quiet Book – Noah’s Ark

In my previous post we put together ‘Baby Moses’ felt page in the Bible Quiet Book.

You’ll find the pattern for this Bible Quiet Book in my friend’s Etsy store.

This post will step you through how to put together the next felt page in the Quiet Book, ‘Noah’s Ark.’

This page is by far the most difficult out of all 8 I’ve done in this project! Watch out for the wave and loose animals; those are the tricky parts. Go slow, be patient and you’ll make it through alright.

Pattern Pieces, Pin & Cut-out Felt

numbered-cut-pattern-pieces-Noahs-ark

1.) Find all the pattern pages with the ‘N#,’ ‘W#,’ ‘NL#,’ ‘NC#, ‘NP#,’ ‘NH#, and ‘NG#’ pieces.

  • – You don’t need NH22 and NC16 pattern pieces; they’re extras.

2.) Tape together the patterns with two pages. Cut around the outline edges to all the pattern pages.

numbered-cut-out-pattern-pieces-Noahs-ark

3.) Pin pattern pages to their respective color felt sheets. Cut out ONLY the ‘N#,’ ‘W#,’ ‘NL#,’ ‘NC#, ‘NP#,’ ‘NH#, and ‘NG#’ pieces.

Here’s all the pieces cut out.

Sew Background

Note: use matching thread when sewing felt.

4.) Place and pin background pieces: N10 (blue water), N9 (light blue sky), N7 (purple rainbow piece), N6 (blue rainbow piece), N5 (green rainbow piece), N4 (yellow rainbow piece), N3 (orange rainbow piece), N2 (red rainbow piece), and N1 (light blue sky piece) onto one of your 9 white felt pages.

  • – Leave a gap between N9 (light blue sky) and N10 (blue water); it gives a wave effect.

numbered-sew-background-Noahs-ark

5.) Sew background pieces onto white felt page.

  • – Leave the rainbow pieces for last.

sew-rainbow-background-Noahs-ark

  • – Sewing the rainbow pieces is a little tricky; they like to move. Start with the purple and keep it close to the sewn light blue sky background piece. Then continue up through the rainbow pieces keeping them close to the previously sewn piece.

done-rainbow-background-Noahs-ark

The rainbow should look like this when done.

The background should look like this when finished. (Note, this is an updated picture.)

numbered-place-pin-dove-leaves-background-Noahs-ark numbered-place-pin-dove-leaves-background-close-up-Noahs-ark

6.) Use N11, N12, N13, N14, and N22 to help place N8 (white dove) and N19 & N20 (light & dark green leaves) onto the sky background. Pin in place.

numbered-sew-dove-leaves-background-Noahs-ark

7.) Sew dove and leaves onto the sky.

done-dove-leaves-background-Noahs-ark

It should look like this when done.

Sew Wave

numbered-place-wave-pieces-Noahs-ark

8.) Place wave pieces onto W3 (dark blue wave back): W21, W22, W23, W24, W25 & W27 (white wave pieces); W10, W11, W12, W13, W14, W15, W16, W17, W18 & W26 (light blue wave pieces); W4, W5, W7, W8, & W9 (blue wave pieces).

numbered-pin-wave-pieces-Noahs-ark

9.) Pin wave pieces onto W3 (dark blue wave back).

numbered-sew-wave-pieces-Noahs-ark

10.) Sew wave pieces on to W3 (dark blue wave back).

  • – Be super careful, these pieces move around a lot and cause problems because they’re so small.

wave-stitch-Noahs-ark

  • – Make sure to sew the wave line on W18 (light blue wave piece); use pattern piece for placement.

done-wave-Noahs-ark

The wave will look something like this when done.

Sew Ark

numbered-ark-door-interfacing-Noahs-ark

11.) Put N22 (light brown ark door) onto thin interfacing.

  • – Note the pattern piece has this labeled as N14, but in the instructions it’s N22. I will refer to it as N22.

numbered-sew-wood-lines-ark-door-Noahs-ark

12.) Sew wood lines onto N22 (light brown ark door).

  • – Use pattern piece N22 as a guide to mark where to sew wood lines with pins.

sewn-wood-lines-ark-door-Noahs-ark

It should look something like this.

13.) Trim excess interfacing and place N15 (light brown ark door piece) in the center of N22 (light brown ark door).

  • – Use N15 pattern piece to Mark where to sew wood lines with pins.

36.) Place backs of loose animals onto thin interfacing: NG6 (light brown giraffe back), NL7 (light brown lion back), NH14 (black horse back), NP3 (purple hippo back), & NC19 (black hippo back).

  • – I accidentally used the wrong piece for the giraffe back; it should have the horns attached to it on the head.
  • – Make sure to place pieces on interfacing with the back facing up; otherwise you’re animals will be backwards.

numbered-iron-interfacing-loose-animal-backs-Noahs-ark

37.) iron interfacing onto loose animal backs.

  • – Be careful not to keep the iron on too long, it will melt the felt.

numbered-cut-loose-animals-interfacing-Noahs-ark

38.) Cut interfacing around animals; leave interfacing border around each animal.

do-not-cut-out-loose-animals-interfacing-Noahs-ark

  • – Don’t trim interfacing around animals yet. I did and it was extremely difficult to sew small parts of the animals. I even had a tail break off; not fun :(.

numbered-place-loose-lion-pieces-together-ribbon-inside-Noahs-ark numbered-back-loose-lion-pieces-together-ribbon-inside-Noahs-ark

39.) Place loose lion pieces together: NL7 (light brown lion back with interfacing), NL6 (light brown lion front), NL4 (dark brown lion mane), NL5 (light brown lion leg), NL8 (dark brown lion tail hair), & NL9 (dark brown lion mane back).

  • – Use NL6 (light brown lion front) pattern for guidance.
  • – I didn’t sew all the lion feet lines, there wasn’t much room on my lion.

42.) Cut out eyes and nose from black felt.

  • – This is when you would trim off the excess interfacing around the lion. Careful not to cut the ribbon.

43.) Glue eyes and nose onto lion.

44.) Sew nose and mouth lines.

done-front-loose-lion-Noahs-ark done-back-loose-lion-Noahs-ark

The lion should look something like this now.

  • – Notice how you can see the dark brown stitching on the back of the lion. That’s because the back mane piece is on backwards. Oh well, it wasn’t worth un-stitching for me :).

numbered-hot-glue-velcro-loose-lion-Noahs-ark

45.) Cut a piece of Velcro and place one side on the back of the lion. Glue in place with glue gun.

  • – The instructions say to sew the Velcro onto the back piece. I didn’t see that until I was at this step, oops. But this is so much easier!
  • – I show how to sew the Velcro on for the horse starting on step 48.

numbered-place-velcro-loose-lion-inside-ark-background-Noahs-ark

46.) Place loose lion on felt page next to the other lion.
