[Project] Part 5 Bible Quiet Book – David and Goliath

In my previous post we put together ‘Queen Esther’ felt page in the Bible Quiet Book.

You’ll find the pattern for this Bible Quiet Book in my friend’s Etsy store.

This post will step you through how to put together the next felt page in the Quiet Book, ‘David and Goliath.’

Pattern Pieces, Pin & Cut-out Felt

1.) Find all the pattern pages with the ‘D#’ pieces.

2.) Tape together the patterns with two pages. Cut around the outline edges to all the pattern pages.

3.) Pin pattern pages to their respective color felt sheets. Cut out ONLY the ‘D#’ pieces.

4.) Cut out D20 pattern piece out of metallic fabric.

You should have D20 cut out of gray felt and metallic fabric.

5.) Cut the inside out of the gray felt D20 piece.

  • – Keep the inside part of the pattern piece. You’ll use it as a guide to sew the breastplate lines.

Your 2 D20 pieces should look like this.

8.) Sew two grass lines to break up the page.

done-grass-David-Goliath

Grass should look something like this when done.

My grass patches got covered by Goliath so you could move them over to the right a bit more to keep them visible.

Sew Goliath

9.) Cut a rectangle out of thick interfacing to reinforce behind Goliath and shield.

numbered-place-interfacing-David-Goliath numbered-iron-interfacing-David-Goliath

10.) Place thick interfacing on the back of the page and iron into place.

  • – Don’t iron too long or the felt will melt.

11.) Place and pin D19 (dark gray shield piece) and D18 (gray shield piece) onto the page.

numbered-sew-shield-David-Goliath numbered-sew-inside-shield-David-Goliath

12.) Sew D19 (gray shield piece) on top of D19 (dark gray shield piece) to secure both onto the page.

The shield should look like this when done.

Update:

After my kiddos played with this a couple times, the elastic string started to fray.

To keep this from happening, zig-zag stitch over elastic string where it comes out of the shield for reinforcement.

19.) Sew Goliath pieces.

  • – Be careful when sewing the breastplate pieces. The gray felt piece D20 tends to move around and not catch the metallic fabric underneath.

20.) Sew chest lines on the breastplate.

  • – Use the cut out D20 piece as a guideline for placement of the lines.
