[Project] Part 4 Bible Quiet Book – Queen Esther

In my previous post we put together ‘Daniel and the Lion’s Den’ felt page in the Bible Quiet Book.

You’ll find the pattern for this Bible Quiet Book in my friend’s Etsy store.

This post will step you through how to put together the next felt page in the Quiet Book, ‘Queen Esther.’

Pattern Pieces, Pin & Cut-out Felt

1.) Find all the pattern pages with the ‘E#’ pieces.

2.) Tape together the patterns with two pages.

3.) Cut around the outline edges to all the pattern pages.

4.) Pin pattern pages to their respective color felt sheets.

5.) Cut out ONLY the ‘E#’ pieces.

Sew Background

6.) Place and pin E38 (light blue sky/columns) onto one of your 9 white felt pages.

7.) Sew E38 (light blue sky/columns) in place.

8.) Place and pin E1 (purple chair), E3 (yellow chair knob) and E7 & E8 (yellow chair feet) onto background.

9.) Sew E1 (purple chair), E3 (yellow chair knob) and E7 & E8 (yellow chair feet) into place.

The chair should look something like this when done.

Sew the King

10.) Place king pieces onto the chair: E10 (red shirt), E13 (white dress robe), E12 (white sleeve), E9 (red sleeve top), E17 (skin arm), E21 (blue sleeve trim), E4 (yellow bracelet), E22 (blue waist band), E23 (blue shirt bottom trim), E16 (skin face), E11 (white hair/beard and eyebrow), E2 (yellow crown), E18 (skin feet) and E5 & E6 (yellow sandals).

11.) Pin king pieces to the page.

12.) Sew king pieces to the page using different colored thread to match felt pieces.

13.) Sew a line to separate feet.

14.) Sew eye for the king using stationary zig-zag stitch.

  • – Switch your sewing machine foot guide to stationary. My sewing machine has a lever switch (shown in the picture) from left to right. Make sure to change back when you’re done :).

15.) Select beads for the king’s crown and bracelet. Get coordinating thread and needle to attach.

16.) Sew beads on the king’s crown.

  • – Tie a knot at the end of your thread.
  • – Start by pushing the needle up from the back of the page on one side of the king’s crown.

17.) Thread beads onto the string.

18.) Stick needle through other side of the king’s crown to attach beads.

  • – Reinforce beads by going back up and through the beads at least 4 more times.

19.) Tie off the thread on the back of the page by catching a little bit of felt with your needle and make a knot.

  • – Repeat 3 times for reinforcement.

20.) Sew bead on the king’s bracelet.

  • – Tie a knot at the end of your thread.
  • – Start by pushing the needle up from the back of the page on one side of the king’s bracelet.

21.) Thread bead onto the string.

22.) Stick needle through other side of the king’s bracelet to attach bead.

  • – Reinforce bead by going back up and through the bead at least 4 more times.

23.) Tie off the thread on the back of the page by catching a little bit of felt with your needle and make a knot.

  • – Repeat 3 times for reinforcement.

Sew Queen Esther

24.) Cut thick chord for Queen Esther’s hair, measuring 6″ each.

  • – I originally cut 9, but only used 6 because my chord was so thick.

25.) Melt the ends of the chords to keep them from fraying.

  • – Melt only one side of each chord for easier sewing later.

26.) Place Queen Esther pieces: E25 (purple dress), E28 (white skirt), E24 (purple dress), E26 (white sash top), E30 & E31 (skin arms), E27 (white sash), E34 & E35 (yellow shoes), E29 (skin face), E36 (black hair), E32 (yellow crown) and E33 (yellow hair band) onto the page.

27.) Cut a rectangle out of thick interfacing to go on back side of page to reinforce Queen Esther and place on the back of the page.

28.) Iron interfacing onto back of page.

  • – Be careful not to melt the felt by keeping the iron on it too long.

29.) Pin Queen Esther pieces onto the page.

  • – Move E33 (yellow hair band) off to the side. You will attach it after the hair is sewn on.

30.) Sew Queen Esther pieces to the page, changing thread colors to match felt pieces.

31.) Sew Queen Esther’s eye by using stationary zig-zag stitch.

32.) Sew 2 eyelashes off to the left of the eye still using the stationary zig-zag stitch.

33.) Place thick hair chords with un-melted sides onto Queen Esther.

34.) Sew thick hair chords into place.

  • – Be careful, the chords tend to move around and flare out.
  • – Go slow, and re-position the best you can.
  • – I had to un-stitch a little because it flared out too far.

35.) Place E33 (yellow hair band) on top of hair chords.

36.) Sew E33 (yellow hair band) into place.

37.) Zig-zag stitch over the hair to reinforce.

The back of the page looks like this on the thick interfacing behind Queen Esther.

38.) Cut ribbon long enough to tie a bow around Queen Esther’s hair and melt the ends to keep from fraying.

39.) Braid Queen Esther’s hair and place ribbon on the page where you can tie it at the end of the hair.

40.) Zig-zag stitch ribbon into place.

  • – Make sure to go back and forth over it a number of times to reinforce.

You can tie a bow around the braided hair.

41.) Select beads for Queen Esther’s earring. Get coordinating thread and needle to attach.

42.) Sew earring beads onto Queen Esther.

  • – Tie a knot at the end of your thread.
  • – Start by pushing the needle up from the back of the page at the middle point of Queen Esther’s ear.

43.) Thread beads onto the string.

44.) Stick needle through Queen Esther’s neck, at the end of where the beads lay, to attach beads.

  • – Reinforce beads by going back up and through the beads at least 4 more times.

45.) Secure earring beads by stitching in place the thread between the two beads.

  • – I went over it at least 4 times for reinforcement.

46.) Tie off the thread on the back of the page by catching a little bit of felt with your needle and make a knot.

  • – Repeat 3 times for reinforcement.

The page should look like this when done. You can braid Queen Esther’s hair.
